Approximately twenty-five thousand homes in Queensland's southeast woke up experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after powerful weather events passed over the region, producing powerful gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Substantial Ice Stones and Widespread Destruction

Locals reported substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of 7cm in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the affected regions, with dozens of response units deployed to address the extensive power failures.

Victoria's Weather Woes

At the same time, nearly 1,000 residents in Victoria also faced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its wettest day in over 500 days.

Emergency response teams responded to 598 calls for help across the region, primarily for building damage but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

• Hoppers Crossing - various rescue reports
• Wyndham area - 179 calls for assistance

At one point on Sunday, more than 28k electricity consumers in the state were without power.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along large portions of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the shoreline.

The following day was expected to become the most rainy day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential predicted across various areas of both states.

Medical Alert

Health officials alerted that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, especially given the current weather patterns.

This alert comes after past events where comparable situations led to major medical consequences in the area.
